My name is Sayra, co-creator of the Sol Sisters Lifestyle. I grew up eating everything and anything I wanted. As a teenager, I decided to join SETA (Students for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) inspired by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). I vowed that as a vegetarian I would not go back to consuming meat FOR LIFE as I had previously failed before due to my lack of knowledge in eating plant-based. I’ve been vegetarian for 15 years and my goal has been to be better at eating healthy and taking care of myself in order to experience longevity and a healthy lifestyle. With that came trial and error from eating unbalanced meals, gaining my freshman 15, to finding the right foods that specifically allow me to look and feel good.
I grew up helping my aunt and mom in the kitchen at a very early age, and I learned to love the process of cooking and all that goes behind making amazing dishes. This is partly why it became easy for me to transition from eating certain foods to cutting them out and playing with more plant-based alternative foods. I do admit I have my vices such as comfort foods or french fries, but as I become wiser with my eating habits, I’ve become better at eating the appropriate foods that will maintain my health at an optimal level. It took years to get to a place where I could eat anything and not feel guilty or restricted with what I ate. My health coaching certification process only expanded and reinforced what I needed to improve in the kitchen by making sure I was eating complete meals using macros. This has allowed me to have a deeper understanding of food and how it affects my body. In short, I have made changes in eating habits by cutting dairy out of my diet as much as possible. Doing so has lessened uncomfortable lactose intolerant reactions, and has helped substantially with clearing my stubborn adult acne that was something I thought I would live with forever. I learned it does not have to be that way, but it does take willingness and dedication to see results that are absolutely satisfying.
I’ve recently taken it to another level and have taken inventory of how other areas of my life are thriving or could use a little more improvement on things like: happiness, fulfillment, and exercise. Here as a Sol Sisters my goal is to guide you into improving your lifestyle and/or eating foods that taste great and are better for your body.
